October News From Silchester Manor
Welcome to another edition of our Newsletter. We have lots of exciting news to tell you about this term so please do read on….

I am delighted to inform you that I have recently started studying for my Early Years Foundation Degree along with Laura and Lianne. This is exciting as working with children is something that we are all very passionate about and with the knowledge we gain from the course, we will be able to support and develop the nursery.

I would also like to congratulate Sam Bains for her award as Employee of the Month. Sam was awarded employee of the month for her hard work and dedication.

We would like to welcome 4 new apprentices that have joined us to gain valuable learning experience and study their level 3 NVQ.

•    Alex Jefferies – Baby Room
•    Jessica Pausey – Toddler Room
•    Luci Collins – 2-3’s Room
•    Sara Yeowell – Pre School

News from our Baby Room

In the baby room we’ve been enjoying various messy play activities. Bruno the bear is a new toy that has been introduced to the room. He will be sent home with each child, giving everyone the opportunity to see pictures of the children in their home environment.

Staff in the room are focusing on changing and improving displays boards.

We are sad to see Tyler and Harrison leave the setting. We wish them all the best and we will miss them greatly.

News from our Toddler Room

Toddler room have been having lots of fun. We have been on nature walks collecting leaves, acorns and sticks and enjoyed leaf painting with the leaves we collected.

We’ve been getting very messy and exploring textures. We have a lot of fun doing body painting and exploring many different textures such as coloured rice, gloop, flour, spaghetti and jelly. Lots of children liked it - some more than others.

The children have enjoyed being engaged in lots of singing and movement and using their bodies to move to the music.

We would also like to welcome Jessica to the room. She is our new apprentice. Jessica is very hard working and the children really like her.

News from our 2-3's Room

It’s been an exciting month for the 2-3’s room as we have recently been on a training course called ‘All About 2 Year Olds’. The course was very useful for the team as it gave them lots of new knowledge about 2 year olds that they’re able to put into practice. This has helped them to plan appropriately and more effectively for their individual children.
All the staff in the room would like to say a massive thank you to all the parents for the lovely comments you have made about the changes to the room and we do really appreciate them.

We have had lots of fun on our outing. We loved being able to feed the ducks and go to the park and jump in the muddy puddles. The children really enjoyed themselves.

We have been getting very messy in our play. We have enjoyed the experience of different materials such as water, sand, shaving foam, oats, gloop and pasta.

News from the Pre School room

We would like to welcome all of our new starters into Pre-School. We hope that they thoroughly enjoy their time here with us. In Pre-School the children have had lots of fun learning about pirates and have been reading books from the library, making treasure maps, pirate hats, telescopes and using them to go on many treasure hunt adventures.
The children have shown a key interest in the natural world in which we live, by collecting conkers and leaves to use in their play.

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated items to use for our ‘Mud Kitchen’ and we would really appreciate it if everyone could search through your cupboards and garages at home to see if you have anything that we could use. The idea is to create an environment where the children can explore the natural world freely where they will have many opportunities to learn and develop.

Please can we remind parents to bring in spare clothes for your child for when they get messy or need changing at nursery.

If you have any empty boxes, plastic tubs and tubes at home then would be greatly appreciated for our creative workshop.
